Agent Spalko

Longtime goldenfiddle reader Justin Stone wrote in with this sparkling fever-dream rumination on the recently released Annie Leibowitz photo of Cate Blanchett in official bad-guy costume as Agent Spalko on the set of the upcoming Indiana Jones and The Retarded Title. Please enjoy…

The Steven in me sees Blanchett in this photo
goes home to bury himself in paisley and beige
looking over his council estate, clutching a head
shot of Louise Brooks. What’s to say about women
with swords, was it my tryout with for eppé one night,
watching Frankhauser beat Rodriguez, which killed
the ninja kid in me with one strike? Riding boots,
probably not the calves to match but who’s looking.
I’d wear that wig, given enough Cuban rum and a
pack of Dunhills, admired points to the ears where
you could hang ornaments. Doting over bloused
powder blue pants, which recall my time on the road
with the state police - the Soviet mannish Shakespeare
we dress women as men reversal. Is it possible to hurt
oneself playing dress-up, stuck in the attic with a flashlight
lantern, switching costumes and then she says, “marvelous,
I never thought I’d look good as a boy, but then neither did you.”

I can’t breathe…when will she stop dressing up like my superheroes…

Bravo! Wasn’t that fun? And now, a BONUS: Cate Blanchett as Daisy in David Fincher’s upcoming, big-screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button. (via ew)

Just read up on Benjamin Button and it sounds suspiciously like the Jonathan Winters aging backwards storyline from Mork. Or vice versa.

As a redhead! Cool.

ooh and it’ll be Shiloh’s debut. fantastic.

jonze, kaufman, howard…wonder why they all dropped out.

she’s gonna be a bitchin’ villain.

yea.. a not nearly decrepit karen allen. le beouf might take over the franchise? B.S.

i keep expecting that she’ll mess up whenever she rolls the creative dice, i.e., I’m Not There. Let’s see how this year goes!

somewhat related to the decapitation theme of the post above, i reread the old Fincher interview in Esquire and they’ll be using technology to attach Brad Pitt’s head on to different bodies (in Benjamin Button). yikes, wonder how that’ll turn out.

re boxing girls: i don’t think those were meant to be used as speed bags.
