Vampire Super Bowl Weekend
Anybody ever heard of these guys? Is this Demetri Martin’s new band?
- “The music is so perky that the band can breeze right through its more cryptic lyrics… the sheer cleverness of every track is endearing. But it’s also brittle; these songs could use just a little more heart.” (nyt)
music that makes you want to get up and tear up everything on your yacht.
what’s amazing is how the fame and backlash hit at the exact same moment.
i hear chris baio, the bassist, is related to scott baio, the douche.
Saw them Thursday night at Popscene here in the Bay Area. Much like when listening to their CD, I got tired of their music and ejected myself halfway through the show.
Guess you have to be in the mood…or at least not keyed.
can’t figure out why VW has inspired such strong reaction from the intertubes. they seem harmless, if anything.
They sound like every third-rate band ever released on Stiff or I.R.S. Here today, gone later today.
this one needs more of the yodelling you hear in Oxford Comma.
Seem pretty disposable to me. This year’s Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Tapes N’ Tapes, etc., I guess.
I happen to think NYT is right on the money; I also happen to think that making catchy music is not a crime. Anyone who believes that any music produced in the last century or so is ever original is either deaf or doesn’t know much about music.
scott baio is 46.. and pregnant.. and a douche.
They’re playing at the Amoeba on Sunset Blvd at 7 today, and I will be there. Oh yes, I will be there.
its rare that you read a review about them without a comparison to Paul Simon or Talking Heads. a little bit of Police to their sound as well.
ohhh that’s a great comment “because Paul Simon invented African music you numbnuts!” hahaha.
I caught these guys in the back of a lawn supplies shop in East Bushwick. That was 7 months ago! Lame.

and it only took them 2 years to skyrocket to fame. such a meteoric rise. (and other space analogies!!)
