Exactly
“There’s a part of me that feels that I have to watch Be Kind Rewind, the latest film from Michel Gondry because it’s Michel Gondry and it’s probably a picture that demands to be seen on the big screen. Yet at the same time, there’s another part of me that dreads watching the film. You know, all of the best parts of the film are featured in the trailer. Gondry is an artist, an extremely talented artist, but the cutesy lo-fi charm of his films is beginning to wear thin with me.” ~ skeetonmischa
its getting panned by critics. i’m amazed he even got it greenlighted in the first place.
he’s at risk of becoming the fred armisen art dealer guy (Nuni Schoener) if he keeps going too far off into the whimsical deep end.
what’s interesting is how the sweding started before the movie even came out. the initial concept doesn’t even matter anymore, what matters more is if people can riff off it..or react to it.
First Wes Anderson and now Michel Gondry - what’s with the auteur-schtick in the past year?? I didn’t think I would ever approach projects from these two directors with such apprehension. And I’m still trying to suss out my feelings for Spike Jonze after that Wild Things clip…

yeah and what’s with “videos”- there are hardly any more independent DVD stores let alone videotape stores.
