Thank You, Burt Sugarman
Speaking of prep-school hippies, this version of “Reelin’ in the Years,” from a 1973 episode of Burt Sugarman’s The Midnight Special, is a little tighter (and has better sound quality) than the other, old, more well known ‘78 “Reelin’,” from The Old Grey Whistle Test. Plus, you know, The Cos’s completely randar introduction, avec ‘stache & ‘gar, which, while welcome (this morning?!), isn’t nearly as sweet as roadie Jerome Aniton’s nitty-gritty ramble from Santa Monica in ‘74.
the coz’s glasses, skunk’s sexy quilted shirt, the Midnight special titling; all beautiful things.
Ooooh those clothes…. Aaaaah those guitar licks…. (I think I’ll have to roll another one to ever get the lyrics.)
you don’t see a lot of big loud graphics (in the kenny scharf Gap tee)anymore. its different from the tiny hot topic hoodie print but not quite hawaiian shirt big.

back then you could have 50 people in your band. homeless guys could walk onstage and start playing spoons and no one would know.
