Wes Anderson stars (and directs, we’re guessing?) in this hilarious new American Express commercial that, apparently, has been running in theaters before screenings of Thank You For Smoking -although, not ours- and, like we said earlier, it’s hilarious. So awesome because it’s full of wes anderson mythology. The daughter of the guy who gave them the sports car (lucy), him asking for the bayonete gun, bill murray paying for the helicopter shot, the birds getting loose. All stories any obsessed wes fan has heard 1000 times over. Also looks like he uses some of his regulars in the commercial—Cinematographer Robert Yeoman, David Wasco, mentions Sandy (Wasco)maybe. Incredibly cool for geeks like me dealing with the interminable wait until the next movie comes out (no way in hell Fantastic Mr. Fox makes it out in 2006).
Yeah, and add to that, when will Radiohead finish up already?

I only thought it was funny in that context- wonder what Truffaut thinks…
same music too as “Day for Night”, and notice “Francois” at the beginning. God, it makes me want to see a Truffaut flick.

Reply to Carloloves’ first comment… It’s not done with a single shot. It’s made to look that way. Watch very closely during breaks in the script. Also the final scene is obviously a new shot. BTW I love this verson of the commercial. The version on TV is edited and far less funny.
