The Jerk also gained notice from an unlikely admirer in the form of the late Stanley Kubrick, who wanted Martin involved in Eyes Wide Shut. Seriously.

“He saw The Jerk, and I happened to be in London,” recalls Martin.

“He called me up, I went to his house, he gave me the book Dream Rhapsody (the basis for Eyes Wide Shut) and I read it, and we never really contacted each other again.”
